FAQ
What is paramedical tattooing?
Paramedical tattooing is a specialized form of cosmetic tattooing that helps restore or enhance the appearance of skin affected by scars, burns, surgery, and other medical conditions. It includes techniques like ink camouflage, areola reconstruction, and inkless needling to improve both the aesthetic and emotional well-being of individuals.
Who is a good candidate for paramedical tattooing?
Paramedical tattooing is ideal for anyone looking to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, or areas affected by surgery or injury. Whether you’re recovering from a mastectomy, burn, or accident, or simply want to restore your skin’s appearance, paramedical tattooing can help you feel more confident and whole. Contact us to go through your medical history to ensure you are eligible for our services.
What is the age requirement?
All clients must be 18 years old to receive paramedical tattoo services. Parental consent is not accepted for clients under 18. A valid photo ID is required at check-in.
Is the procedure painful?
Most clients experience minimal discomfort during paramedical tattooing. Pain tolerance varies by individual, but our team takes every measure to make you feel as at ease as possible. We don’t like to use numbing creams because they can interfere with the tattooing process and produce unpredictable results.
How long does the procedure take?
The duration of each procedure varies depending on the area being treated. For example, areola reconstruction may take about 2-3 hours, while inkless needling, ink camouflage and hair restoration sessions typically last 1-2 hours. During your consultation, we will provide a more accurate estimate based on your specific treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients need 3–4 sessions. Your artist will customize this during consultation.
How long do the results last?
Paramedical tattoos can last for years. Fading may occur over time with sun exposure and skin care habits. We recommend SPF 30+ on treated areas to protect results.
How old do scars have to be to receive treatment?
For optimal results with paramedical tattooing techniques like ink camouflage or inkless needling, scars typically need to be at least 6 to 12 months old. This allows the scar tissue to fully heal and settle, ensuring that the skin is stable and ready for treatment. Fresh scars may still be in the process of healing and could change in texture or appearance, so it’s best to wait until the scar has matured before undergoing treatment.
Inkless vs. Ink
Inkless needling focuses on improving skin texture and healing without pigments, while ink camouflage uses tattooing techniques to conceal imperfections with a pigment that matches your skin color. At RenewLab, we always recommend starting with inkless to achieve the best possible outcome.
What happens if I get tanned?
With Ink camouflage, sun exposure can cause the pigments in your tattoo to fade more quickly, resulting in less vibrant or uneven results. To ensure the best results and protect the treated area, it’s recommended to avoid tanning or direct sun exposure for at least 4–6 weeks after your procedure. After that, always use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) on the treated areas to prevent fading and damage from UV rays
